:: hfw 2012 - leaders in hijab ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge is:

Leaders in Hijab

What leadership roles do you have & how do you dress for them as a hijabi?

Actually this is the theme for Day 1 but since I am emceeing for an official event attended by one of the deputy minister today, I am wearing a formal attire which is really appropriate for the 'leaders in hijab' look.

As some may know, I am working with an established telecommunication company in Malaysia and a leader of this particular unit in the Human Capital department. Leadership role is pretty challenging especially when problems arised but I am thankful enough for having team members and superiors who are very supportive. A person can be born to be a leader but it is not easy to become a good leader. For me, the leadership path is still a long journey and there is a lot to learn, improve and execute.

Working in the corporate world allows me to explore fashion. While we should dress formally except on casual Friday, the rule is not rigid as long as it is appopriate with the working environment and agenda. The look that I have for today basically reflects my dressing to office most of the time. I believed our dressing reflects our personality. Despite my interest in exploring and playing with different look and trend, I still stick to some rules I learnt from corporate grooming classes on formal attire such as only wear up to 3 colours at a time. Here in this look you could see me wearing a formal colour which is blue with a dash of grey and black.

Scarf - Vincci Accessories
Corsage - Heart Attack
Shirt - Mango
Skirt - South China Sea
Handbag - Coach
Heels - Charles & Keith

:: hfw 2012 - time travel ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge for today is:

Time Travel

Bring something back from the past and combine it with a recent item or trend!

Printed scarf: bazaar at Jaya One
Cardigan: Dorothy Perkins
Maxi dress: brandless
Watch: Furla
Handbag: Louis Vuitton
Heels: Kiss & Tell

This is when old meets new. In order to achieve this look I chose the foulard print scarf as something from the past and combined it with the colour of Spring/Summer 2012 - yellow. If not mistaken foulard print was famous in the late 80's to 90's. I remember looking at my mother's foulard scarves back then and associate it with prints for adults or specifically, the 'aunties'. I still have that thought until I saw that foulard print scarf at the Jaya One bazaar last Saturday. Still unsure whether it is an age factor or something else, I somehow found that scarf pretty and immediately got an idea to wear it like that. Definitely not my everyday style though but I kind of like it because it reflects a classy look.

Nothing much to exagerrate about the famous colour of the season. I have been crazy about yellow since months ago and it seems that I am not the only one. Even LV released the yellow vernis limited and specially for its Spring/Summer 2012 collection. That bag is love at the first sight and it was the only one available in their boutique at The Gardens Kuala Lumpur. Yellow can easily influent your mood and based on my experience, it helps to brighten up my day just by wearing a piece of it.

I am happy because I am able to achieve today's challenge but I am not so happy about that photo actually. I was in a rush and pardon me, I do not have any dedicated photographer so I took it with a self timer using my handphone. I am still wondering how fashion bloggers got their pretty pictures actually. Do they own a dedicated photographer to snap their looks everyday? Hrmmm... still curious. By the way, I seriously need a photographer /-_-\

:: hfw 2012 - favourite hijab ::

Hi all~!
This week I am participating in the Hijabi Fashion Week (HFW) by loveHFW, which is an online event celebrating modesty, diversity and sisterhood. I accidentally came across this event some time ago and I found it interesting so when it was opened for registration, I did not hesitate to register. It is a 7-day event, starting 28 May until 3 June and the challenge is to come out with a look for each given theme. I have not manage to submit theme for Day 1 yet because I was not feeling well yesterday so I started mine with theme for Day 2. According to the rule, we are given up till 7 days to submit a look so I will obviously submit my Day 1 look at the end of the week.

The challenge for today is:
Favourite Hijab
Create an outfit inspired by your favorite Hijab!

Scarf - two tone bawal scarf from Kelantan
Blouse - Rania blouse from The Pop Look
Skirt - brandless
Bracelet watch - Guess
Handbag - Gucci
Heels - Nose

Before I am comfortable wearing a rectangular shawl, I have been wearing bawal scarf ever since its existence because the material is cotton like but softer so it is easy to shape. I have always like ombre tone in fabrics so the two tone purple scarf is definitely one of my favourite.

:: specially baked for bread lovers ::

Recently I have found a new addiction and that is munching while driving home from office. My snacks are usually buns and junk food so when I was searching for something to buy at myNews Menara TM two weeks ago, I found this:

a new line of bread from Gardenia

"Specially baked for bread lovers" was printed on the packaging so as a bread lover, I was tempted to give it a try. What's more, it was said that the brown bread is baked with sundried tomatoes and olives too. Wahhh for real?

I do not normally eat a slice of bread just like that because I normally prefer it to be toasted but I could not wait to reach home to try it. I ended up eating two pieces. It was fresh and the packaging did not lie because they were real olives and tomatoes! (...and olive is one of my fav).
I knew the bread would taste better if toasted and my instinct was right. It produced nice smell, crispy outside and soft inside.  If you are used to eating Subway sandwiches, the bread is almost like the Parmesan Oregano type and I bet we can produce a Subway-like sandwich with this Passione Italiana too because it is made of herbal mediterranean mixed grains. The packaging suggested it to be toasted and eaten with a butter spread but our refrigerator was out of butter spread or margerine so I had my toasts with my all time favourite ingredients - cheese and baked beans. Man, it tasted so good. I had four slices of bread with similar toppings and they were gone in just mere minutes.

Simple but yumzzz

I was very satisfied with this Passione Italiana bread and seemed to be addicted to it already. Eventually, there are other two types of bread in the same line; the Sommerset Cottage and Bonjour. While the Sommerset Cottage is an English loaf with wholesome grains and seeds, Bonjour is a classique loaf topped with black and white sesame seeds. They are all priced at RM4.20 each, double the price of an ordinary Gardenia white bread but I can asssure you the cents are worth spending.

:: for a bright smile ::

babyAdy's first set of toothbrush and toothpaste

Question: When should I start cleaning my baby's teeth?

Answer: Parents should start brushing their baby's teeth as soon as they appear. At first, just use a soft cloth or gauze moistened with water to wipe plaque from the teeth and gum twice a day but when other teeth have appeared, consider using a soft bristles tooth brush for the process. Only small amount of toothpaste is allowed especially if the toothpaste is fluoridated. Fluoride can be toxic for children if digested in large quantities so keep it away if the child is still unable to spit out the toothpaste.
