:: moslema in style 2013 ::

I had the opportunity to attend Moslema in Style 2013 at PWTC Kuala Lumpur yesterday. It was a hijab and islamic fashion show for muslimah featuring Malaysian and Indonesian designers from boutiques namely Button My Buttons, Eja Shahril Collection, Cahaya Kasih, AnnBatik, Ainon Kaman, Anggia Handmade, Hijrah Couture and Suci by Yatt Hamzah.

It was an interesting and a previlege experience watching models catwalking in modest outfits covered from top to toe, which is totally opposite to the usual mainstream fashion shows. Each designer came with individual style and specific range of attire from daily, casual, formal and even wedding. The outfits were all colourful and eye-catching; meanwhile the hijabs were styled in many different ways. Totally inspiring!

The event can also be considered as a gathering for muslimahs because except for the press, the attendees were all women. We were serenaded by the beautiful Datin Noryn Aziz and her voice was amazing. Like any other fashion shows, the event ended with appearance by each of the designer. One who caught everybody's attention was the celebrity Yatt Hamzah who came out of the back stage holding hand with her little daughter. It was so cute because the little girl was a bit shy at first, but still smiling while walking. I wish I can have that type of moment too - to be on stage with my little boy, but since I don't have any fashion line I just need to shrug off the idea.

After the show we were invited to enjoy scrumptious food that was already served for us at the back of the hall. It was a good time for networking so while eating I managed to chat with two young ladies who are the owners of PatternizedScarves and DearDarlings. Highlight of the conversation was when they both asked about my age and it was flattering when they said I don't like someone in 30's *blush* Hehe thank you girls for making my day!

Besides food there were also line of booths opened by the boutiques for guests to view and shop. Cosmoderm was also there so most of my time were spent at their booth; checking their products, taking photos and mingling with their team members and guests. Besides samples in the goodie bag I also brought home Cosmoderm's latest Vitamin E Makeup Remover, which I will review and blog soon.

It was a memorable day, thanks to Cosmoderm for the opportunity given :-)

The lady in gold glitter shawl is Azliana @ Nana, Cosmoderm's Head of Corporate Communication.
Also managed to pose with the pretty model, Ara Lee.

 Last but not least, here is a full shot of what I wore yesterday:
Shawl: Unbranded
Accessories: Diva
Clutch: Dorothy Perkins
Top: Unbranded
Peplum belt: Zara
Skirt: Vintage
Heels: Kiss & Tell

:: my current fav colour combo ::

My current favourite colour combo is

...

...

...

Lately I have been wearing this colour combo once a week. I have a number of green clothings because I always attracted to the colour but green is actually not an easy colour to match so I did not wear them often. I used to pair green with earth tones but since I have been wearing black a lot these days, I found black and green compliment each other better. What say you?

On another note, emerald green has been announced as Pantone colour of the year for 2013. Click here to learn more about the colour and its meaning.

Last but not least, did you notice the bracelet that I was wearing in all three photos? It is in green and black too and I had to buy it because it is simply irresistable. Check fadBRIC page on Facebook for more accessories selection. They sell trendy, colourful ones at affordable price.

Have a pleasant weekend!

:: work outfit for 2013 ::

Ever since my pink room is in decent condition, I have been snapping vain photos of myself on Instagram, showing what I am wearing to work everyday. I thought I could inspire people but it lasted for 3 days though because *snap* I came back to reality after thinking about what people would say about me after bombarding their Facebook newsfeed with the same pose everyday. Anyway I am just an ordinary person, not a trendsetter or a fashionista for people to care and interested to know what I am wearing...urgh excuse me, why should I sound so emo anyway? Haha.

Ok ok although I realised about all that facts that have been written, I still continue taking photos in front of the mirror and decided to share them here in my blog instead. I am complicated sometimes and I often lost idea on what to wear to the office. I need some past references. Believe it or not, few years ago when I was still single I got so much free time to come out with a system for my office attire because I wanted to avoid wearing the same shirt twice in a month (or two). I numbered each shirt's hanger and printed out the numbers on paper for every month. Everyday I would cross shirt number that I was wearing so it was easy to monitor and choose which tops I haven't wear. Yeah, call me a weirdo.

Anyway, I have stopped using that system now so please bear with these vain photos of mine. Happy Friday! :-D

:: pastel friday ::

Yeehaaa...Friday is finally here!

Nothing much to share except this pic of what I am wearing today...

Cardigan - no brand
Basic tee - Dorothy Perkins
Skinny jeans - Dorothy Perkins
Necklace - MNG but that pink pompom is from a Diva necklace
Flats - Bonita which has been revamped with DIY pompom

I know I look like a lolipop or paddle pop rainbow ice cream but I like it. I have been wearing black or dark shades everyday since last week so I decided to wear something colourful for fun and pastel is just purrr-fect. Earlier this morning I already took out the gladiator heels to match this outfit but I ended up wearing flats because I have not wear flats to office for quite some time already and oh my, my feet feel so light! ...and I feel so short! Hahaha.

Currently I am crazy over coloured skinny jeans and so far, I have this mint green, red and cobalt blue. It is fun playing and experimenting with colours but sometimes it is quite challenging to find the right combination so whenever I am in doubt, I just Google "how to wear ...". Yeah, that's a tip for all of us who are always in doubt but it's ok, mister Google will try his best to give the solution. For mint jeans, most popular combination would be with white but I always wear mine with other pastel colours like coral or pink and yellow as above.

So, what's next?

Nothing else.... just enjoy your weekend, peeps! :-)

:: black & beige monday ::

Heyya peeps, how's weekend? I don't know why but for me, time always flies faster than usual during weekend. We watched Prometheus on Saturday night. It is the third movie for Ady after Battleship and Avengers but he did not watch the movie at all because he slept just when Prometheus started. Despite its fiction genre which is not my cup of tea, Prometheus is not a bad movie. In fact it is a lot better if compared to Battleship and it is worth watching. On another note, I just knew durian season is back again. Later that night we went to parents' in law's house and ate this creamy, thick flesh durian that makes me wanting for more. Ever since pregnant I have been abstaining myself and only ate a flesh or two. Since Ady is almost a year now, I guess there is no harm to enjoy what I have been missing for a year.

Saturday gone and Sunday came. I intended to watch Germany vs. Portugal Euro 2012 match but I was so sleepy, maybe because my tummy was full that night. Although I already knew Germany won I still catched up the replay match yesterday. Both are my favourite teams and I have been supporting them since World Cup 2006. Yesterday was not an ordinary Sunday because I managed to cook for lunch after so many months. Cooked rice porridge with carrot and anchovies for Ady; and fried sardine with omelette for us the parents. Yeah, nothing special but I am still happy for the achievement. Maybe I can go back to the kitchen more often when Ady is a bit older. In the evening we went to Puncak Alam to visit our friends, Isma and Hairil for catching up. All in all, it was a nice weekend spent with family and friends.

Well, I have been rambling about stuff that is not related to the topic so better be back on the right track. Although it is already a wrap for the Hijabi Fashion Week, I still insist to post what I am wearing to office today. Sometimes Monday Blues caught and stopped me to dress up on the first working day of the week but after two weeks of demotivation I wanted to energise myself by putting a bit effort in my office attire with this black and beige theme.

Shawl - Vincci Accessories
Waterfall Cardigan - EightDesignsBoutique
Basic Tee - Dorothy Perkins
Skinny Belt - Dorothy Perkins
Pants - Mango
Handbag - Louis Vuitton
Heels - Kiss & Tell

That pair of high heels is the Louboutin inspired pumps which I have posted about earlier. I made some improvisation with it by adding a removable strap with a beige and black ribbon on it, which at the same time adds more comfort for me to walk fast as usual. I still have few more DIY projects for the shoes but still searching for time to execute them and blog about it. Please share with me if you have any fashion related DIY projects so I can check them out. I just love art & craft.

On the other hand, I have been wanting for a black jumpsuit since months ago. I found this nicely fit jumpsuit in Ikano during Chinese New Year public holiday and it was only RM49.90. I was so excited when I bought it but when I tested it at home on the next day, the sales assistant actually gave me the one in another model which was very loose. We went back all the way to IPC but was devastated to find the one I tested at the shop earlier was sold out. I was asked to search for another item because they did not do refund but hubby 'made some noise' and made them returned the money to me. Hubby said why must we burden ourself by searching and buying for something we do not want especially when the fault came from their part. Since then I never find another nicely fit jumpsuit so when ever I am feeling to wear one I just pair the black basic tee with black pants and a belt to look like I am wearing a jumpsuit. Yeah, I am sometimes silly and vain like that.

By the way I am wearing a gold belt that came from DP's metallic pack of three belts. The other two colours are silver and bronze but I sold the bronze one to my friend Riza because I already got one in bronze (which is one of my fav belt ever, also from DP) given by Fila. Bought the set in Mid Valley last Friday for RM46 but discounted at 10% because I am a Fashion Fast Forward member. It is not easy to find nice metallic belts you know. Actually I thought Rabby wanted it since she has been searching for gold belt for ages but since she did not want to purchase them I decided to own them instead. Babe, don't be jealous at me haaa...! :-P

Ok, that's it. Too much writing. See you again soon and oh, Happy Monday!

:: hfw2012 - style crush ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge is:

Style Crush

Choose an HFW participant's style to try out with your own clothes! Show us which participants inspired you, or mirror a style that you might never have tried before!
Among all HFW participants, myazfashionspot's style caught my eyes because she loves wearing bold and catchy colours. I intended to try something that is beyond my ordinary look so I decided to replicate her style although it is almost impossible because I do not own similar items to what she was wearing. That indirectly reflects how different her style is when compared to me so that is the kind of challenge I am looking for.
From all the looks she posted for HFW, I decided to replicate the look for Day 4 - Destinations.
This is myazfashionspot's style...
...and this is phatgurl's style...
Shawl - bazaar at Jaya One
Long cardie - buttonsmybuttons
Basic tee - Dorothy Perkins
Necklace - bought in Melbourne
Belts - Brand Outlet Store
Clutch - Dorothy Perkins
Watch - Guess

Khakis pants - Giordano
Flats - Bonita
~ long cardie + owl necklace + tee tuck in + khakis + flats ~
I know it does not look exactly but that is the best I could do. I have no regret wearing such outfit the entire day because I am comfortable and really like it. Have not wear khakis for some time already so this is some kind of come back. Will definitely wear this style again next time most probably with a pair of boots or high heels.
Anyway, this is the last post for HFW 2012. Alhamdulillah I have managed to post all seven looks required and happy to complete the challenges. Hope to participate in the next HFW later. Till then, adieu!

I {heart} HFW.

:: hfw2012 - special occassions ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge is:

Special Occassions

Eid, formal, etc. -- how do you stay modest when you need to get decked out?
Today is the last day to submit for this challenge. I had hard time on this one when compared to others because I do not have any special event this week to dress up for the challenge. Went to a wedding last Saturday and planned to post that look but sadly I did not snap any full figured photo of myself. I have to dig around and finally found this photo:
Scarf - a gift from my father
Top - buttonmybuttons
Necklace - Diva
Skirt - Parkson

The above picture was taken with Aishah during a special occassion we had among blogger friends. It was a tea party to celebrate Shazwani's belated birthday and engagement in Alamanda Putrajaya earlier this year. That maxi skirt is actually a sarong for a set of modern baju kurung I bought several years ago for Eid but I found it pretty to be worn as a skirt. I normally wear a notch extra than my everyday look for special occassions and most of the time, accessories or bling bling played major role to enhance the outfit. That day I wanted to dress in english style hence explains the pearls and roses fabric. Basically I will wear something suitable according to what the special occassion is for example traditional dress during Eid or long dress for company's annual dinner, as long as it is appropriate and modest.

Have a nice weekend everyone!

:: hfw2012 - destinations ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge is:

Destinations

If you could go anywhere for fun, where would you go & what would you wear?

...and my answer for that would be Greece.
I love beaches and the mediterranean scenery. When I watched the Sisterhood of Travelling Pants there were scenes taken in Greece and I immediately felt in love with the country. The scenery was breathtaking as the ocean was sparkling blue and so does the sky. With that in mind, I came out with this look that reflects the blue ocean and sky of Greece. I always associate white with beaches, hence explains the white shirt and that Aztec themed bib necklace is worn to add colours and enhance the outfit. For your info the bib necklace is handmade by me last night. Love the fact that I can get a new accessory in less than an hour. DIY rocks!
Shawl - bazaar at Jaya One
Bib necklace - phattgurll accessories (DIY)
Shirt - American Eagle Outfitters
Skirt - brandless
Handbag - Charles & Keith
Boots - Charles & Keith

I wish I could visit Greece one day and these are lovely sceneries taken in Santorini, Greece found from Google Image:
*wish I was here - dreaming *

:: hfw 2012 - date night ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge is:

Date Night

What would be the perfect date with hubby?

I still owe four more looks for HFW including this one. It should be an outfit for a date night with hubby and while most participants submitted sophisticated looks in dresses and skirts, I opted with this colourful and casual outfit:

3-tone Shawl: F.O.S
Chiffon Blouse: brandless
Pants: MANGO
Watch: DKNY
Handbag: Coach
Wedges: Vincci

It is more like a day look actually but my husband is a simple man. Instead of having dinner at a fancy restaurant with jazz music in the background he would prefer having dinner at places like Chillis (or al-Rawsha like yesterday) and later spend the night watching movie at the cinema. The idea is to have a relaxing night where the two us could chat and enjoy the quality time together so the best outfit for that would be something really comfortable.

To be honest I usually wear jeans with basic tee and cardie during our outing but that is too ordinary for a Fashion Week. Since my husband likes seeing me wearing pink, I came out with a pink oufit with splashes of yellow and orange. I love the colour combination because it somehow reflects sweet and fun at the same time..... and it sure makes me look younger too because the sister whom I bought breakfast from this morning referred me as a bachelorette. Too young to be married eh? (LOL).

On another note, tomorrow is our wedding anniversary. Will be going for a real date night so should I take today's look as an inspiration? Hrmmm...let's see. Anyway, please revisit this page again tomorrow for another outfit for HFW. Toodles!

:: hfw 2012 - leaders in hijab ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge is:

Leaders in Hijab

What leadership roles do you have & how do you dress for them as a hijabi?

Actually this is the theme for Day 1 but since I am emceeing for an official event attended by one of the deputy minister today, I am wearing a formal attire which is really appropriate for the 'leaders in hijab' look.

As some may know, I am working with an established telecommunication company in Malaysia and a leader of this particular unit in the Human Capital department. Leadership role is pretty challenging especially when problems arised but I am thankful enough for having team members and superiors who are very supportive. A person can be born to be a leader but it is not easy to become a good leader. For me, the leadership path is still a long journey and there is a lot to learn, improve and execute.

Working in the corporate world allows me to explore fashion. While we should dress formally except on casual Friday, the rule is not rigid as long as it is appopriate with the working environment and agenda. The look that I have for today basically reflects my dressing to office most of the time. I believed our dressing reflects our personality. Despite my interest in exploring and playing with different look and trend, I still stick to some rules I learnt from corporate grooming classes on formal attire such as only wear up to 3 colours at a time. Here in this look you could see me wearing a formal colour which is blue with a dash of grey and black.

Scarf - Vincci Accessories
Corsage - Heart Attack
Shirt - Mango
Skirt - South China Sea
Handbag - Coach
Heels - Charles & Keith

:: hfw 2012 - time travel ::

-Hijabi Fashion Week 2012-

The challenge for today is:

Time Travel

Bring something back from the past and combine it with a recent item or trend!

Printed scarf: bazaar at Jaya One
Cardigan: Dorothy Perkins
Maxi dress: brandless
Watch: Furla
Handbag: Louis Vuitton
Heels: Kiss & Tell

This is when old meets new. In order to achieve this look I chose the foulard print scarf as something from the past and combined it with the colour of Spring/Summer 2012 - yellow. If not mistaken foulard print was famous in the late 80's to 90's. I remember looking at my mother's foulard scarves back then and associate it with prints for adults or specifically, the 'aunties'. I still have that thought until I saw that foulard print scarf at the Jaya One bazaar last Saturday. Still unsure whether it is an age factor or something else, I somehow found that scarf pretty and immediately got an idea to wear it like that. Definitely not my everyday style though but I kind of like it because it reflects a classy look.

Nothing much to exagerrate about the famous colour of the season. I have been crazy about yellow since months ago and it seems that I am not the only one. Even LV released the yellow vernis limited and specially for its Spring/Summer 2012 collection. That bag is love at the first sight and it was the only one available in their boutique at The Gardens Kuala Lumpur. Yellow can easily influent your mood and based on my experience, it helps to brighten up my day just by wearing a piece of it.

I am happy because I am able to achieve today's challenge but I am not so happy about that photo actually. I was in a rush and pardon me, I do not have any dedicated photographer so I took it with a self timer using my handphone. I am still wondering how fashion bloggers got their pretty pictures actually. Do they own a dedicated photographer to snap their looks everyday? Hrmmm... still curious. By the way, I seriously need a photographer /-_-\

p/s: do check out other participants' look for the HFW too

:: hfw 2012 - favourite hijab ::

Hi all~!
This week I am participating in the Hijabi Fashion Week (HFW) by loveHFW, which is an online event celebrating modesty, diversity and sisterhood. I accidentally came across this event some time ago and I found it interesting so when it was opened for registration, I did not hesitate to register. It is a 7-day event, starting 28 May until 3 June and the challenge is to come out with a look for each given theme. I have not manage to submit theme for Day 1 yet because I was not feeling well yesterday so I started mine with theme for Day 2. According to the rule, we are given up till 7 days to submit a look so I will obviously submit my Day 1 look at the end of the week.

The challenge for today is:
Favourite Hijab
Create an outfit inspired by your favorite Hijab!

Scarf - two tone bawal scarf from Kelantan
Blouse - Rania blouse from The Pop Look
Skirt - brandless
Bracelet watch - Guess
Handbag - Gucci
Heels - Nose

Before I am comfortable wearing a rectangular shawl, I have been wearing bawal scarf ever since its existence because the material is cotton like but softer so it is easy to shape. I have always like ombre tone in fabrics so the two tone purple scarf is definitely one of my favourite.

:: colour block bib necklace ::

Friday is here and another long weekend awaits us. It was a short week to me because myself and others who are working in Kuala Lumpur already had a day off on Wednesday due to the Federal Territory Day. I wish to have more public holiday on Wednesday because having a day off in the middle of the week brought positive impact to me as I felt more energetic hence lead to better productivity at work. I said this maybe because I had a great ME-day on that Wednesday. It was my first ME-day ever since having a baby. Ady's nursery was opened because we are staying in Selangor so I asked hubby to send him as usual. It was only for 6 hours but I managed doing a number of chores and also a craft project - a colour block bib necklace. I have shared this tutorial on how to make pompom felt flower and it gave me an idea to come out with this.....

Colour blocking is the in thing right now so instead of doing it only with tops and bottom, I thought why don't I do it with accessory too. I really adore the end result and excited to wear it because (1) I have always been in love with bib necklace (2) yellow vs. fuschia is my most favourite colour block combo. My hands are itchy to produce more accesories now and I shall call my products 'Phattgurll Accessories'. What do you think?

Anyway, here is my complete look for today: aqua blue + fuschia + yellow = a colour blockin' Friday.

Striped Shawl -  bought in Mecca
Bib Necklace - Phattgurll Accessories
Cropped Cardie - ButtonMyButtons
Basic Tee - Dorothy Perkins
Jeans - Levi's Lady Style
Heels - Viki Shoes

Wearing vibrant colours to colour block helps brightening up the day, boost confident level and indirectly gives positive vibes to the wearer. Trust me, go colour block today.

:: pink overload ::

I have organised a briefing and demo session on new feature in our claim system for all company's secretaries in Klang Valley and it is happening today. Best part of it, the speaker of the session is no other than myself. I usually plan what I am going to wear to office on the next day the night earlier especially when I am having something important like meeting, get together, townhall session or any kind of event, but last night I was too tired so I felt asleep before I could decide what to be worn. Too bad, I didn't wake up as early as expected.

It was already 6 something. After taking shower and preparing Ady's stuff, I was left with only few minutes to decide and prepare myself because I had to rush to get a parking spot inside the building. Thank God it is Friday. At least I could turn to something that doesn't require much ironing so I just grabbed my favourite grey skinny pants and paired it with cardie, basic tee, striped shawl and heels. I was in a rush. I picked whatever crossed my mind so when I was driving and already calmed I just realised that I was overloaded in pink.

Pink shawl, pink cardie, pink tee, pink heels; not forgetting pink ipad casing and pink lanyard tag too. Although they are in different shades, they are still in the pink family. If being asked "what is my favourite colour?" people would not hesitate to answer it because the answer lies here:

Shawl: Bought in Mecca | Cropped cardie: ButtonMyButtons | Basic tee: Dorothy Perkins | Skinny pants: Giordano | Heels: Jaya Jusco

If you are allergic to pink, I have to say sorry for hurting you. Although as Steven Tyler sang 'pink is my obsession' I still thought it is a bit too much at first but I'm kind of like it now. Perhaps this can be considered as a tribute to my favourite colour. No?

Well well well, on another note the morning demo session was a success. Almost 60 people came and few others will come later in the afternoon session. I haven't talk to a group of people for quite some time already. The last time was earlier this year when Rabby invited me as a guest speaker, talking about event management in front of her students. Frankly speaking, I have passion in teaching, presenting or giving talk about topics that I really like and good at. I like the idea of being a guest speaker or part time lecturer but not interested in being a full time teacher or trainer though. Anyway I used to be a master of ceremony or emcee for many events within and outside the company and actually like the role a lot but I have decided to slow down on that because of personal reasons. Hmph.

Before leaving, below are pics taken during the demo session just now.

One of my colleague said she could listen clearly to what I said although her cubicle is few metres away from the briefing area. Yes, I have a loud voice and thank you for the compliment.
