Sunday is already here and I have been staying up through out the night to maximise my weekend. Life is too short - workloads are killing me softly. I wish time moves slower on Saturday and Sunday so I could spend longer time with my loved ones and also, myself.

Spending time with myself either means surfing the internet, blogging or connecting with my creativity. Nothing much but I hardly get the chance to complete all three during a weekend. Even surfing the internet for casual reading is challenging during weekdays. Ah, put that aside. Let just continue to the most recent DIY project I did during the long weekend of Chinese New Year celebration.

Firstly, the project is actually inspired from this image found on the Internet:

 

Accesssories made from rope is always in fashion trend. The look is unique and casual, yet can be eye-catching depends on the material, colour and combination. Since a year ago, I have read a number of tutorials for rope necklaces made by DIY queens. During my last visit to the craft shop I finally remember to buy a rope for the project - but instead of necklace I decided to create a belt.

 

Materials used:

- 1 meter gold rope

- Gold satin ribon

- Rubber strap

- Velcro

- UHU glue

- Needle & thread

 

Steps involved:
1. Fold the rope once to make it double and knot the rope as in diagram above. One end of the rope is in a loop while another is split end.

2. For the split end, attach ribbon with glue at end of each rope. Measure rubber strap around waist and cut according to comfort. Attach the rubber strap by sewing to the ribbons.

3. At another end, fold the rubber strap into the rope loop. Adjust and attach velcro by sewing to the rubber. The end.


How simple is that? I wish I have bought more ropes in different colours so I could have another belt in two colours combination. Besides that, I am also inspired with this DIY project and thinking of making it.

Rope is surely in my next shopping list!

:: moslema in style 2013 ::

I had the opportunity to attend Moslema in Style 2013 at PWTC Kuala Lumpur yesterday. It was a hijab and islamic fashion show for muslimah featuring Malaysian and Indonesian designers from boutiques namely Button My Buttons, Eja Shahril Collection, Cahaya Kasih, AnnBatik, Ainon Kaman, Anggia Handmade, Hijrah Couture and Suci by Yatt Hamzah.

It was an interesting and a previlege experience watching models catwalking in modest outfits covered from top to toe, which is totally opposite to the usual mainstream fashion shows. Each designer came with individual style and specific range of attire from daily, casual, formal and even wedding. The outfits were all colourful and eye-catching; meanwhile the hijabs were styled in many different ways. Totally inspiring!

The event can also be considered as a gathering for muslimahs because except for the press, the attendees were all women. We were serenaded by the beautiful Datin Noryn Aziz and her voice was amazing. Like any other fashion shows, the event ended with appearance by each of the designer. One who caught everybody's attention was the celebrity Yatt Hamzah who came out of the back stage holding hand with her little daughter. It was so cute because the little girl was a bit shy at first, but still smiling while walking. I wish I can have that type of moment too - to be on stage with my little boy, but since I don't have any fashion line I just need to shrug off the idea.

After the show we were invited to enjoy scrumptious food that was already served for us at the back of the hall. It was a good time for networking so while eating I managed to chat with two young ladies who are the owners of PatternizedScarves and DearDarlings. Highlight of the conversation was when they both asked about my age and it was flattering when they said I don't like someone in 30's *blush* Hehe thank you girls for making my day!

Besides food there were also line of booths opened by the boutiques for guests to view and shop. Cosmoderm was also there so most of my time were spent at their booth; checking their products, taking photos and mingling with their team members and guests. Besides samples in the goodie bag I also brought home Cosmoderm's latest Vitamin E Makeup Remover, which I will review and blog soon.

It was a memorable day, thanks to Cosmoderm for the opportunity given :-)

Yesterday I was wearing this same shawl:

The shawl is fully printed with cat print and one of my colleague who passed by said, "you are wearing cat print, just like Victoria Beckham's dress."

When it comes to the Victoria Beckham who is famous with her fashion sense I immediately googled Victoria Beckham cat print dress and here it is:

Cat print doesn't see the limelight so much as compared to other animal prints but they are too cute. I'm going to find and have more cat print in my wardrobe to reflect myself as a cat lover... and 29th October (two days ago) is National Cat Day.

I did wish our cats "Happy Cat Day", hope they got the message :-D

Some cool facts about cats:
- Cats sleep 16 hours of any given days.

- Cats have dreams. They start dreaming when they reach a week old (hrmmm...this may explains why they sometimes twitch in sleep)

If there is one thing that people would remember about me I guess it would be the high heels. I wear high heels to office almost everyday because to me, an outfit is never complete without a pair of them. I'm used to receiving question like "how do you walk in that?" (even from our company's GCEO) or remarks like "I know it's you just by listening at that footsteps" so I'm proud to consider high heels as part of my personal branding.

I started wearing high heels constantly when I started working with TM in 2003 so the 10 years of experience is indirectly an answer to how I can walk or even run with them. As much as I agree that comfort is the first element to look for, no doubt there were situations where design rules the purchase decision. I bought my high heels from all over the place without considering the brand or the price tag as long as they are pretty, outstanding or eccentric. Thanks to online shopping sites, buying shoes nowadays is just like buying any fashion item. Just trust your gut or measure your feet and voila they are coming to you in clicks away.

My most favourite online shopping site for shoes is definitely Kiss & Tell. Five (5) pairs of my shoes today are bought from them because no matter how high they are, the element of comfort is always guaranteed. As one happy customer, I could say that Kiss & Tell is one of a kind because they offer first class service in terms of delivery and customer checkpoint. I was really impressed when they sent me an email to check whether I have ordered correctly because the size was different from what I normally chose, when the shoes were meant for my boss who is a size 8. Such personalisation is definitely two thumbs up so Kiss & Tell, I will come back for more ^_^

:: create your own watch strap ::

Just like other weekends, I stayed up late last night to have my own sweet me-time. I went into my little wardrobe room looking at things and there were the watches, one of it with the handmade studded strap I have made and blogged about many months ago. I was actually looking for an activity and when my eyes saw this particular watch, given by my-then-boyfriend-now-hubby for my birthday many years ago I somehow got a "light bulb" (just like how Gru said it in Despicable Me, if you noticed the scene). The watch has three sets of interchangable straps in white, black and monogram; and me being me, decided to make the fourth one in red so I could match it with my red outfit next time :-P

It is just a simple one actually, made in less than 30 minutes but the key message that I am sharing here is creating our own watch strap according to our taste, colour, preference and theme is limitless. All we need is a bit of time and effort. 

 

3 basic items needed:

1. Felt fabric for the strap (other materials: leather, ribbon, printed fabrics)

2. Velcro to secure the strap

3. Ribbon as the deco (other materials: buttons, studs, crystals, etc)

 

3 easy steps involved:

1. Cut the fabric into a long strap

2. Sew the ribbon to the strap

3.  Stick velcro at each end

 

Easy? ;-)

One of my favourite watch lost its leather strap last month and I have been planning to change the strap but always forgot to bring it to the shop. Out of nowhere I somehow got this idea to make my own DIY watch strap using whatever items available in my art and crafts box. It was an impromptu idea. Made it last Tuesday and it took me less than 30 minutes to give my old watch a new look.

1. Materials used:
- Strong Glue
- Felt Fabric
- Velcro
- Studs (bought from H&M for RM19.90 per pack - also available in silver and multicolour)
- Watch

2. Cut two straps of felt according to watch size and measure the length according to wrist size. Slip the straps inside the strap holders and glue one end at the back of each strap.

3. Push in the studs into the felt and secure the claws.

4. Front view of the straps with studs.

5. Glue velcro at the end of each strap.

6. All done and ready to go.

:: how i store my handbags ::

One thing I love the most is handbag (besides shoes, clothes and accessories lah) and I have been a handbag lover since as long as I can remember. My first official handbag is a black / purple Garfield bowling bag which I personally chose as UPSR gift from my parents. I was 12 years old and that time I was obsessed with Garfield so having a Garfield handbag is top on the list. When I started working my passion towards collecting handbags started growing. If you are familiar with this saying, "a woman can never have too many shoes" well I would say it is similar to handbags too because to me I can never have too many handbags. I need one for a casual outing, one to match a colour, one classic design as a legacy collection, one 'it' bag from a designer... and yeah the list goes on and on and on.

When the collection is growing one thing that has to be considered is the storing space. All these while I have allocated one row or 'one door' of the wardrobe because handbags need proper storage to keep them in good shape and long lasting. My previous wardrobe was small though and the handbags had to be stacked up on each other so when we moved in to the current house I have allocated bigger space for them. First I was inspired by thepinkstilettos who blogged about her DIY bag storage using hooks so I implemented the same idea for my weekend totes using the S shape hooks instead.

Personally this is such an awesome idea because I can easily grab a bag especially when I am in a hurry. However I would say that this method should be implemented to frequently used bags and please be reminded to take out unnecessary things out of the bags before they return to the hooks because heavy weight will give pressure and may damage the handles when they are hang like that.

Meanwhile, the rest of the collection is kept inside individual dust cover or boxes on shelves and most of the handbags are stuffed with tissue paper to retain their shapes.

 

Tier #01: Handbags that come with black dust covers are standardised in one shelf.

Tier #02: Although stored in individual boxes, the bags should still be stuffed with tissue paper and kept inside dust covers.

I have been reminded by sale assistants to let the leather handbags to breathe. It is not advisable to keep leather handbags inside the box all the time so in order to let them breathe is to use them often or keep them inside covers outside their boxes. Well I choose to use them often because I want to keep them in their boxes :-D

Tier #03: Seldom used clutches are kept inside one of the big box to save some space. Keeping them inside the box allow other bags to stack on top.

Tier #04: Fabric handbags do not come with dust covers but they are fine like that and hotel laundry bag is used as substitute for dust cover.

Dust cover may not look important if the bags are kept inside a close wardrobe but another purpose to keep them inside is to avoid any colour transfer from a bag to another. If the bag does not come with one, you can use pillow case or any drawstring bag (or use laundry bag like what I did) as a substitute. Lately I have been wearing this colour combo once a week. I have a number of green clothings because I always attracted to the colour but green is actually not an easy colour to match so I did not wear them often. I used to pair green with earth tones but since I have been wearing black a lot these days, I found black and green compliment each other better. What say you?

:: chiffon flower corsage diy ::

I have not done any DIY project ever since we moved to the new house since end of November last year but after meeting a friend and saw her fluffy fabric corsage last week I got inspired to return to the crafty world. All these while, most of my DIY projects involved felt cloth because felt is cheap (bought it at Daiso, only RM5 for a huge piece) but when Diana said she made hers using remnants bought at fabric store I said to myself "why didn't I think of that before?". Fabric corsage looks more sophisticated and formal than felt so it is a must have because it can helps to enhance any plain shirt.

Instead of buying remnants from the shop I however sought some from my mother-in-law who apparently has three bags full of fabrics leftovers. From several pieces of fabrics I took, the one that attracted me the most was this particular three tone chiffon in my favourite shades of green-white-pink. At first I wanted to make similar corsage like Diana did, which she already shared the YouTube tutorial on my FB page but while searching the internet I found another tutorial, went on with that one and happy with the end result that look like this:

It may look complicated but it is not that hard to make. Items needed are:

- Long piece of fabric (chiffon, polyester or any soft fabric)
- Needle and thread
- Small piece of felt in circle shape
- Decorations for flower center: beads / crystals / buttons / sequins
- Glue
- Pin


Steps:

1. Fold the fabric downward and sew all the way at the bottom from one end to another. Length and size of the fabric determines size of the flower. No need to sew it nicely because the intention is to pull the thread and produce ruffles as below.

2. When ruffles are created, roll the fabric in spiral to create a flower. Secure the base with glue or sew with thread.

3. Attach the circle shape felt to the flower base with glue, then attach pin to the felt as below.

4. End with decoration of your choice on the center of the flower.

Using the same technique, I also made a small brooch for my mother-in-law as a way to say thank you for the pretty fabrics :-)

I still have few more fabrics to work with. Will try to make different one next and update if the project is a success. Stay tune!

:: how to extend a necklace ::

You went inside an accessories store and saw this pretty necklace. You grabbed it, went to the mirror and hold it on the chest. Yeah, it looked gorgeous but (oh NO!) the necklace was too short so you had to put it back on the rack. Well this usually happens especially to those who are wearing hijab over the chest because short necklace could not be seen except if it is worn outside the hijab.

Last time I went through a similar situation, early in the morning while preparing to work. I have planned to wear this faux pearl necklace I got since I was 10 years old only to find it was shorter than I expected. I am not sure how my mind works during a crisis but somehow, the 'light bulb' just popped and problem solved. That was the day when I found how to extend a necklace and this is how I did it...



Using a chain necklace, one clasp was attached to another end and that is all ;-)

Nowadays I have a dedicated chain to be used as necklace extender and with a small safety pin I applied the same step as above. Chain can be bought by length from hardware shops (even in Ace Hardware) and instead of using safety pin it is much better if it can be connected to a proper necklace clasp that can be bought from hobby or craft shop.



From Google I found people using paperclips to extend their necklace. There is also necklace or bracelet extenders on sale but basically the concept is similar to what I have so this can be considered as a DIY necklace extender then ;-)

:: work outfit for 2013 ::

Ever since my pink room is in decent condition, I have been snapping vain photos of myself on Instagram, showing what I am wearing to work everyday. I thought I could inspire people but it lasted for 3 days though because *snap* I came back to reality after thinking about what people would say about me after bombarding their Facebook newsfeed with the same pose everyday. Anyway I am just an ordinary person, not a trendsetter or a fashionista for people to care and interested to know what I am wearing...urgh excuse me, why should I sound so emo anyway? Haha.

Ok ok although I realised about all that facts that have been written, I still continue taking photos in front of the mirror and decided to share them here in my blog instead. I am complicated sometimes and I often lost idea on what to wear to the office. I need some past references. Believe it or not, few years ago when I was still single I got so much free time to come out with a system for my office attire because I wanted to avoid wearing the same shirt twice in a month (or two). I numbered each shirt's hanger and printed out the numbers on paper for every month. Everyday I would cross shirt number that I was wearing so it was easy to monitor and choose which tops I haven't wear. Yeah, call me a weirdo.

Anyway, I have stopped using that system now so please bear with these vain photos of mine. Happy Friday! :-D

I know I look like a lolipop or paddle pop rainbow ice cream but I like it. I have been wearing black or dark shades everyday since last week so I decided to wear something colourful for fun and pastel is just purrr-fect. Earlier this morning I already took out the gladiator heels to match this outfit but I ended up wearing flats because I have not wear flats to office for quite some time already and oh my, my feet feel so light! ...and I feel so short! Hahaha.

Currently I am crazy over coloured skinny jeans and so far, I have this mint green, red and cobalt blue. It is fun playing and experimenting with colours but sometimes it is quite challenging to find the right combination so whenever I am in doubt, I just Google "how to wear ...". Yeah, that's a tip for all of us who are always in doubt but it's ok, mister Google will try his best to give the solution. For mint jeans, most popular combination would be with white but I always wear mine with other pastel colours like coral or pink and yellow as above.

So, what's next?

:: mac cosmetics & anya hindmarch christmas 2012 ::

It is end of the year and to me, it literally means 'stay-away-from-shopping-malls-months'. Why? Firstly it is the year end sale and secondly because this is the time where items like cosmetics, perfumes and handbags come in cute, pretty, to-die-for collections. Usually these items also come with this invisible tag saying "you will regret if you don't buy me" because as we knew, Christmas collection is always exclusive and limited just like this year's MAC Cosmetics Glamour Daze Holiday Colour collection. Yes, I never fail to keep up with MAC's Christmas collection every single year and this time around they are opening the campaign booth at KLCC Concourse Area since 7th till tomorrow, 11th November 2012. Nor and I were attending an event at KLCC last Thursday so we took the opportunity to take a look at the latest offer. 

They had this huge set-up in the middle of the KLCC concourse area but almost no customer was around that time, maybe because it was around 3:00 pm. However, we later knew the reason as we were poorly attended by a brunette sales assistant who treated us as if we did not have any money or in a nicer way, knew nothing about MAC *rolling eyes*. It was the first negative experience we ever had and even worst when she told us that the travelling pouch was sold out on the launching day whereas it was still available at the MAC outlet just across the booth. I also noticed that she kept on telling us to go visit the outlet and no wonder there were many customers there! As far as I know, most promoters at MAC promo booth are usually freelancers so too bad they were paying that girl for bad reputation and poor customer service. Such a waste! In the end however we were still happy because we were attended nicely and given free eye makeup by the sales assistant at the MAC outlet itself (forgot her name already) and she was also happy with Nor for giving her a big comission for buying few items.

Reflecting its name, the Glamour Daze Holiday Collection comes in sophisticated and glamour packaging consisting leopard print, lace print and exclusive chic, satin-tufted casings. Everything was so tempting (and again, come with the "you-will-regret-if-you-don't-buy-me" invisible tag) *sigh*. Colour pallettes for eyes are between shades of green, purple and brown with pink to coral to nude lips.

My personal favourite is the exclusive face kit (the one next to the brush set in pic above), which consists of a lipstick, a blusher, an eyeliner and a blusher brush in a pretty box with mirror inside that can be turned into a chic clutch. Such a good deal for RM315 and I am jealous because my BFF owns it now T_T. Apart from that, another favourite is the foldable cosmetic bag (pic right, second line) which is only RM135 (and Nor owns that too *double T_T*). That bag is something worth buying for makeup lovers and I am not surprise if it is already sold out because it is chic yet affordable . Anyway, you can go and check out the entire MAC Holiday 2012 collection at the nearest outlet.

After checking out the make up, we went to a special event by Anya Hindmarch entitled 'Dance with the Marano' in conjunction with its latest collection of Marano clutch, all thanks to my partner-in-crime Nor who got the invite. I never seen a Marano before and surprised to see the glitter clutch came with tiny colourful LED lights. Never seen such thing before and there was another one with some sort of snow globe at one of its side. Very creative, huh?

Besides watching the socialites mingling with each other and eating every type of finger food offered (we were both hungry because it was already 3 something and we didn't had lunch) we had the chance to check out rest of Anya Hindmarch collection in the store. Apparently, glitters are conquering this year's Christmas collection because they can be seen everywhere on clutches, handbags and shoes.

Each guest was entitled to take a photo and dance with the Marano inside a photo booth so here is yours truly, dancing with the lil glittery Anya Hindmarch Marano clutch :-)

:: kardashian kollection now in malaysia ::

Who never heard of the Kardashians? I believe they are among most sensational families worldwide and I have become one of the fans who got stuck in front of tv watching their series either Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Kourtney & Khloe take Miami, Kourtney & Kim take New York and even Khloe & Lamar. I was happy knowing that they are collaborating their fashion line with Dorothy Perkins and was even happier for getting the chance attending the Kardashian Kollection Preview Launch Party in Malaysia which was held at Dorothy Perkins Mid Valley yesterday evening.

Went there with no other than my partner-in-crime, Nor but did not stay long. There was not much to be seen from the collection but the items were pretty and reflected the girls. I can immediately imagine Kim wearing the leopard print dress while Kourtney wearing the printed blouse and Khloe donning the printed blazer. What I like the most is their glitter envelope clutch. Glitter is totally in the season right now and you could never go wrong with one. Another thing I noticed about this kollection is the price. Being someone who frequently pay visits to DP, I have to say that Kardashian Kollection is selling at higher price (around half to double) than usual. I guess that should be expected when there is a collaboration with a strong brand because customers not only buy the name but also its exclusivity as the items are limited. From what I read on Twitter (I follow all 3 sisters as well as Rob and Scott) items sold during online preview in the UK were sold out.

:: my must-have from coach's legacy holiday 2012 ::

I literally screamed with excitement when I read about BagAddictsAnnonymous giveaway as she is collaborating with Coach in giving away items from the latest Coach Legacy Holiday 2012 collection. Coach has always been one of my favourite brand and one thing I love about their latest Legacy holiday collection is the solid, vivid colours that can effortlessly enhance any outfit.

Although spoilt with choices, the must-have item for me would be the Legacy Penny Shoulder Purse and since most of my handbags are plain coloured, the colourblock plaid penny in the middle will definitely become a statement piece.

I might be a bit greedy here but I just could not resist this Legacy Colourblock Large Leather Clutch too which is spacious enough to hold the daily essentials during a short outing or a trip to mamak. It is impossible to say no for such pretty colour combo and cute mini tassels. Major love!

:: diy - colourful thread bangles ::

Lately I have spent most of the nights bloghopping from one fashion DIY blog to another. For someone who has passion in DIY stuff, flipping through the blog pages left me in awe because there were lots of brilliant projects out there. I got really inspired and sometimes amazed with their creativity, like "where on earth did she get that fantastic idea from?". Despite being inspired and all, time constraint limits me to try the projects although I have planned to execute some. So far I have only managed to do this particular one because the resources were all available and it did not consume much time. This is a perfect project for those who are thinking of giving your good old bangles a facelift. Rather than leaving them in the dark, change their look according to your current taste and do not be surprised if they somehow become your favourites before you know it (like what had happened to me). To cut the story short, here it goes - the tutorial for Colourful Thread Bangles inspired from Rags to Couture.

Items Required:

- colourful cross stitch threads

- bangles

- glue

Steps:

1. Choose combination of thread colours according to own preference. Glue at a spot inside the bangle and start rolling the thread tightly around it.

2. End the first coloured thread by sticking it on a spot of glue inside the bangle and snip off the balance with scissors. Repeat the same process with the second coloured thread and so on.

3. Roll the thread tightly around the bangle until complete and you're done!

4. The end result, before and after.

My new bangles look better now than earlier. Actually I did not have any old bangles so I bought the metal bangles from a RM2 shop and it came in a stack of six. Two are thicker ones and both were fully wrapped with thread while the thinner ones were half wrapped for a different look. On another note, that cross stitch threads are sentimental value to me because they were given by my beloved late grandmother. She has passed away for seven years and I have kept that threads longer and vowed to use it for something really good. I have no regret in using them for this project and that bangles would definitely be a keeper, forever.

:: peplum day ::

We had a celebration in the office on Tuesday last week. It was the year end gathering for all of us at Human Capital SSO and it was food galore because there were huge selection of dishes. The most anticipated one was the roasted lamb and there were also 'nasi hujan panas' complete with side dishes, the most delectable yee mee, mushroom soup, roasted chicken, roti jala, fruit salad, cheese cake, yummiest chocolate cake, carrot cake, prune cake, popia basah, sardine roll and ohhh so many more. What I like about this type of gathering (besides eating, of course) is the opportunity to mingle around with others within the Unit and here are some pics of myself with my colleagues...

There were only few photos available because some others were a bit blur and here is a full shot of my outfit that day:

That is my first peplum blouse and I was wearing it for the first time. I know peplum has been a craze since early of the year but I was not interested to try it out because I was afraid it will make me look f-a-t. That printed peplum blouse however is exceptional because I was too in love with the print! It was H&M's but it was sold out when I visited the store on its official opening day so when I saw the similar printed peplum from this FB shop named Femme Elegante, I just had to get it.

Anyway, the major concern in wearing peplum is the waist line. A higher or a lower waist line makes a person look unappealing in peplum so in my opinion, a belt or a sash plays a very important part to enhance the figure. That day I rely on that skinny belt a lot because honestly, I did not feel very comfortable without wearing one and in order to keep the belt from straying from the blouse's waistline I even sew two belt holders at each side of the waist like this:  

  

E for effort, eh?

At the end of the day I was feeling happy because I had a full tummy and got to wear my favourite print blouse...
